Arsenal Keep Title Hopes Alive After Hard-Fought Draw
WSL Contenders Share Points
Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the FA Women’s Super League table to three points after a thrilling 1-1 draw against reigning champions Chelsea.
The Gunners dominated much of the first half and took the lead through Stina Blackstenius, but Chelsea rallied after the break and levelled through former Arsenal forward Guro Reiten.
The draw means Arsenal stay top of the table with 28 points from 12 games, while Chelsea remain third on 25 points from 11 games. Manchester United are second on 27 points from 11 games.
Jonas Eidevall Reacts
Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall said he was proud of his team's performance, despite the draw.
“I thought we played really well, especially in the first half,” he said. “We created a lot of chances and I think we deserved to win the game.
"But Chelsea are a very good team and they showed their quality today. I think a draw was probably a fair result in the end.”
Emma Hayes Disappointed
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes was disappointed with her team's performance, but she said she was pleased with the result.
"I thought we were second best in the first half,” she said.
“But I was pleased with how we came back in the second half and got a draw. Arsenal are a very good team and it’s always difficult to get a result here.”
