Robbinsville overcomes 14-point deficit to win 28-21

Ravens score 21 unanswered points in the second half to force overtime, then win it on a field goal

The Robbinsville High School football team rallied from a 14-point deficit in the second half to defeat Ewing High School 28-21 in overtime on Friday night.

The Ravens trailed 21-7 at halftime, but they outscored the Blue Devils 21-0 in the second half to force overtime.

In overtime, Robbinsville won the toss and elected to receive the ball. The Ravens drove the ball down to the Ewing 20-yard line, and then senior kicker Nick O'Brien kicked a 37-yard field goal to win the game.

The win was a big one for Robbinsville, as it improved the Ravens' record to 4-1 on the season.

Ewing dropped to 2-3 with the loss.

Robbinsville was led by senior running back Jayvon Thompson, who rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

Senior quarterback Jack O'Brien was also a key contributor for the Ravens, as he completed 10 of 16 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Ewing was led by senior quarterback Mike Stafford, who completed 15 of 27 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns.

The Blue Devils also got a big game from senior running back Isaiah Barnes, who rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, as both teams traded blows throughout the game.

Ewing took an early lead in the game, as Stafford connected with senior wide receiver Darius Allen on a 30-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.

Robbinsville responded with a touchdown of its own in the second quarter, as Thompson ran the ball in from 5 yards out.

Ewing regained the lead later in the second quarter, as Stafford found Allen again for a 20-yard touchdown pass.

The Blue Devils then extended their lead to 21-7 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Barnes.

Robbinsville came out of the halftime break with a renewed sense of energy, and the Ravens quickly cut the Ewing lead to 21-14 on a 1-yard touchdown run by O'Brien.

The Ravens then tied the game at 21-21 on a 5-yard touchdown run by Thompson with 6:32 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Neither team was able to score again in regulation, so the game went to overtime.

In overtime, Robbinsville won the toss and elected to receive the ball.

The Ravens drove the ball down to the Ewing 20-yard line, and then O'Brien kicked a 37-yard field goal to win the game.
